Extremely stubborn and suspicious

20″ 4.5 double pull zipper achieved. The color is gorgeous. I didn’t notice the house of mouse tabs until after the order went through, but I’m sure I can find uses for the rest of them. There are some castles too, but they feel like a solo effect. Perhaps for a mermaid tail sleeping bag.

Had to throw the top piece over paper to counter the remnants of the basting spray on the lining side. Hard to keep the seams smooth when the fabric is sticking to the table. Took three rounds, but finally got the seam close enough to the piping to call it. It’s a trainwreck, but any any problem spots can be tightened up by hand. Fairly sure I’m the only one that will notice either way. Broke a needle running the stitching around the lining, but it’s in place.

The top piece lining is a bit wonky over the zipper edge, but nothing worth ripping out. The pattern leaves the grommets for last but that sounds awkward AF. Might as well get them done while the piece is manageable.

Double-checked the front pieces now that the foam is here. The measurements are correct but it’s not quite lining up. Worst case I cut down the back of the curve a half inch to fit. Best to start with a test fit…

Shape tracks. A little time with the zipper foot and I can pull the basting and seal the seam.

The second edge of the zipper always goes smoother. Easier to track the curve from this plane. Got to break in my new pink scissors on the seam allowance. The seal is a bit bumpy in places, but fairly smooth overall.

Not psyched with how the bottom lined up, but third time charmed. Like the love child of a quonset hut and a prairie bonnet. No more stalling. Time to stop being a baby and square things up.

That was an awkward conversation. But fruitful.

My thread stash is short on warm tones. The only other pink on hand is an icy cotton candy, but it’s down to the last seam. Gotta try.

That came down to centimeters. End game time. Not enough scraps left to put together binding without some serious Frankenstein in the mix, but there are white jelly roll strips left from Basketcase and plenty of neutral thread. Hopefully there’s time enough to hand seal the deal. Not a fan of machine stitched binding and the corners are going to need more control.

The white binding echos the piping quite well and I think the pockets were a good addition. Made a few minor fixes by hand – wobbles in the piping seam allowance and a corner that didn’t quite go the distance. Looks like a hot mess on the closeup, but barely noticeable at arm’s length.

Good to know I can still turn out something usable in a weekend. That’s not a bib.
