This is an interesting medium, but detail work and precise tones are a bit much to hope for. And the “examples” on the ads are photoshopped. Even side-by-side, I can’t tell the difference between Rosy Pink and Magenta Rose. I tried a 40:60 mix of the lighter and Snow White and the difference is barely discernable, and mostly a loss of transparency. The purples seem to vary by tone, rather than value – Amethyst is more blue-based than Lavender.
The Citrus Yellow is the only opaque color in the pack, which is irritating AF. But it’s also the most Enid tone, so I’m not pulling it. They’re too green, but I ending up adding Sunny Yellow and Turquoise, as the lack of striped sections makes hue overload more apparent.
It’ll be interesting to see how the peach dries. It’s the older bottle style, and I think an older formula – far runnier than its counterparts. It actually blends better, now that I’m used to it, but catching the drips on the first run through resulted in two of the half-dry panels smudged. I made an attempt to salvage them, but I’m not holding out much hope after the initial yellow pane smudged. On the other hand, is good to have confirmation that they do peel right off.
I’ll need to test some denim and clear mixes for the Wednesday half. It needs to be subtle. And hopefully not require three more bottles of paint. Maybe I could mix the clear with acrylic ink. And maybe I can permanently stain the window. Best not to take chances with the rental.
