One of the draws of this rental was the octagon window I have designs on. The goal was to have it done by Halloween, but I couldn’t quite get my impetus up. Last week I had an ugly wake-up. Literally. A bird hit the window at 0630.
As little as I enjoyed that cheerful clean-up, I rather hope I go the same way. Barrelling straight ahead with hope in my heart – no idea what’s coming and gone before I hit the pavement. And I ordered paint. Tiny bird corpses are sad.
I measured and taped and tried to keep the initial lines as straight as possible, as the base for everything to follow, but I mostly let go of the perfectionism after that. As the tweeter attests, life is too short. Spiders aren’t perfect either. I ran out of lead lines, but not before I made it through all of ZZ Ward’s EPs and LPs in chronological order.
Patched the junctions with faux-lead paint, but I’ll need to clean up the edges with a razor blade once it cures. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised; this stuff is far easier to work with at this scale, so long as you thin it down a touch in a more maneuverable bottle. Probably another hour or so tomorrow, once I’m restocked, then a day to cure and let the adhesive set. Gives me time to run some paint swatches and order extra blue for Wednesday’s side.
I should also do some test runs for Enid’s stripes. I have no idea how these paints are going to react when I lay them down side-by-side while they’re still wet. Like acrylics? oils? Watercolor-level dispersion could get fugly fast. I may need to consider taping and/or letting one color cure before adding the next. Many swatches to plan and probably some YouTube to consult.
