The coveted tiny window can only serve so many purposes. So what are the givens…

  • The window is short and high on the wall
  • Paint desk needs a wall on the right so I can mount my paint racks
  • I don’t like facing a wall
  • Closet will need a lot of shelves but still have space for both folding tables
  • The closet doors don’t have to stay installed
  • Drop-leaf craft table could use casters but that would make it rather tall

So that’s settled. The table under the window feels more open, but also unbalanced and unrealized. Kind of like the bedroom layout where the chair and the bed faced the same wall. It was like the whole room was focused on a tv that wasn’t there.

The table in front of the closet is more functional. The layout is more targeted at the things I do while leaving room for the things I want to get into. Plus 2-3 configurable auxiliary stations for thoe hot wire cutter, chop saw, etc.

In a perfect world the digital desk wouldn’t be facing the wall, but this allows for future 3D printer/CNC to be directly connected on the right with Arduino/Raspberry Pi projects on the left. The craft table can hug the wall for sewing projects, or pivot and solder without having to change venues when it’s time to flash.

If I pull the trigger on another shelving unit for rpg books and jigsaw puzzles, I could potentially free up space for a permanent mini photo backdrop on the wall unit, maybe ring it with LEDs. No more pinched fingers from repurposed gear. So definitely ordering that.
