And, of course, I forgot his quarterstaff. I haven’t touched it since the base coat, but it still blends a bit too well. I said I wasn’t going to use washes, but I didn’t have the patience to try and work the angles getting to the teeny-tiny bugs. This is another exception – I’m ready for him to be off my desk.
I don’t want the staff to look like a canabilized limb, so started with a pale gray wash to desaturate the orange tones, then a couple sepia washes to bring back the gold. Watered down Scorched Earth on the claws to knock down the sheen enough not to look like a disco ball.
Yeah, no. The warm golden tones are still too close to the orange. Blackstaff it is.
Yeah, still no; I’ve boomeranged. The Dungeon Stone and Wizard Grey is too desaturated; it feels like a rendering glitch. I need a dry brush and an iced purple. Light Orchid it is.
I think it’s better, but I dunno that it’s done. I can wait until he settles overnight, but I think I’m finally done fiddling. Time to get him based. Well. I can maybe tone down the demipurple claws a bit. They still feel too little strong. And the dragonfly’s ass could use some neatening. fml.
omfg. STOP. I don’t care if he spontaneously combusts; brushes down, dice up.
Nope. Can’t do it. I need to knock down the gloss on the bugs. Better to varnish before basing anyway, in case I get stupid with the glue, which Gretchen knows I will. 10 minutes with the airbrush; mark.
Huh. No prep beforehand, setup to varnish, back through cleaning, breakdown, and put away with 4 seconds to spare, no rushing. I didn’t think it was possible for the Eclipse to be better than advertised, but there it is. Maybe skip the dice and binge the Modustrial Maker reno list instead.
The force wanes and then it waxes.
