In an effort not to soujurn over long in the Valley of Diminishing Returns, I moved on. Based his claws and ride-alongs in white to get some scope. I want them to play into the blue of the sigils, but I still have shit to work out.

Was thinking about bringing back the ruddier tone on the weaved and braided bits, but dry brushing wasn’t strong enough. Tried a glaze but it didn’t quite get there either so I tried thinning down some AP SP. I knew it was a Bad Idea as I was stirring the paint, but I did it anyway. And then piled up two coats of Dark Wood in an effort to cover it up. There’s definitely going to be some warm tone bleeding through. In all, it could be worse. It’s only paint; not like I can’t bring it right back up. Once I varnish again; I’m about over SPv1 reactivation.

Spent a couple hours detailing bark features. The foliage need to be distinct from the bark without calling undo attention to itself – something analogous. Based in Wizard Grey to separate leaves from the stems and layered in desaturated oranges. Minimal edge highlighting in pure Rust Orange with points in Rosy Skin to sharpen the contrast without going full Sunny D.

Another two hours and still no varnish. On the bright side, his beard and…loincloth (?) are almost back under control. (seriously? why would a tree have loins? that’s just as weird as the dryads having mammary glands. GW nursing those unrealistic expections.)

His sideburns and loose chin fibers could use more edge highlighting and maybe a adesaturated midtone. They’re blending into his torso a little too well. Loincloth is only half highlighted and still not sold on the acorn clusters. Maybe once the varnish knocks down the gloss.
