The sigils are mostly restored to white-ish and I lightened his face some to center focus. I dunno what it is about Reaper Bleached Linen, but I can’t live without it.
Given the OSL that’s coming, would be nice to have good color shots for comparison, but last night’s cell phone pics are in keeping with my underwhelming photography skills.
Vincy V obliged by releasing a very timely video, so I dragged out my $20 lightbox to try again. I found my enthusiasm for it has waned. Last time I was able to get some better color representation and clear a large backlog pretty quickly, but the tops of the images were overexposed and I’m still not ready to bother with post-processing.
Today I set the internal ring light front-facing and tried shooting through the donut hole. Emphasis on tried, as it’s an awkward opening that leaves very little room to maneuver or position the tripod, let alone angle the lens. The diffuse front light is lovely, but the clumsy placement also meant trying to adjust the model through the top – suboptimal at best.
ISO 100; F-stop 5.2 (lowest available)
I tipped the box back to top down light so I could open the front panel, which allowed me to capture a lot more detail, but at the cost of that lovely glow. Between the restricted field of view and the visible light refraction where the sweep bends too sharply, I don’t think the side reflection is worth the effort. Not when I have LED side lights I could be using. It really is a beautiful sculpt.
Next time I try clipping the sweeps to a tabletop easel on the wet desk with the ring light and tripod. In the meantime, I tried shifting focus on a couple of shots, so I can eventually test stacking in Affinity and (hopefully) create a composite that’s fully in focus. I have refrained from pulling the trigger on the Affinity suite thus far, but ended up spending nearly twice as much on minis. Shocking. One thing at a time. Starting with cleaning up the southpaw sigil. Schnikes.
