Finally bit the bullet and ordered a new airbrush setup – Grex Trilium TG-3, which I’m now realizing is Trigger-Gravity-3mm, and a tanked compressor. Night-and-freaking-day.

The tank adjustment actually works, rather than toggling between pressure washer and dry whistle. The screw on the back that adjusts the paint ratio is bloody brilliant, as is the trigger sensitivity. The only quibble I have is the magnetic needle guard, which I knew about from my research. Its great in theory, but it gets stuck in my cleaning pot and has already hit the carpet once – leaving the fan cap in the box unless I need it.

Its the first time I can remember that I left the booth up and came back and painted until I was done. No hand cramps and no spillage.

Control is going to be an issue; I’ll need to run worksheets again. Maybe I can mix in some coloring pages. I thought I was going regret going with the 3mm, rather than the 5, but I have no complaints, even in the larger scale. Both mankins are primed, including the joints, so I can see how the pearlized blue looks over different bases.

Revisited the zenithal highlight on the crows and faced the truth the pork chased home – sedate is boring AF. Reprimed with black from below and up-to-pure white from above. I thought about airbrushing the feathers, but I don’t have the control and I didn’t feel like putty-ing for hours. Also, I stored the putty sideways and it glued itself shut; try not to do that again.

Maybe I’m a classisist, but not feeling color on the feathers. I’ve seem some gorgeous versions, but once I started I got muppet flashes and had to swap to a soft black base. Thinking a black wash with a deep blue drybrush and see where it ends up. Midnight blues and purples on the cloaks, maybe copper plating on the crow skulls.

and seriously, how long does it take a camera battery to charge? 24 hours seems excessive
