I think it’s time to put the markers up for a bit. As fun as they are, I’m ready for something 3D, though I haven’t quite decided what. Maybe I’ll drag out the trash pile and see what strikes me as interesting. I think I want to do something larger scale this time. Maybe a prop rather than a terrain piece, possibly steampunk.
I am happy with how Sunny turned out with his little belly. Was a lot easier knowing that the grey would cover yellow bleeds and I think I finally started light enough to keep saturation without going too dark.
I used my white ink brush pen to bring back the highlights on his eyeballs and a gel pen to add more controlled lines to his irises. Maybe tomorrow I’ll revisit the background with some watercolors just to see what happens. Alcohol ink is fairly grabby; it shouldn’t lift. Not sure about color dilution and bleed through though, especially on coloring book paper. Should be interesting. And potentially very messy. I wonder what purple would do – would the purple bleed through the yellow in places or would the pigments layer to a complex brown? Only ever one way to find out.
