Doodling remains difficult. Well, less the actual doodling and more the mental rotation of 3d objects in space, but same diff really. Trying to limit my frustrations so I don’t quit entirely. I figure if I had started drawing as a kid, I would already have years of copying under my belt. I have a lot of catching up to do. I also need more confident pen strokes, which is going to take a lot more practice. Or an actual brush, which I haven’t wielded in a while. Well, not with ink. Not with India ink anyway.
It’s also very interesting to compare how one artist does multiple things, and how multiple artists do one thing. What makes an expression recognizable, how much is really universal, which features you exaggerate to anthropomorphize – how do you make a snake smile? Rhythm, flow, balance. Some days it’s easier to do than dissect.
