Still working acrylics, but the long weekend seemed like a good time to close a loop, namely the Khainite Shadowstalkers. I’m seriously tired of looking at them. Also of knocking them over and breaking bits. Considering they might see two hours of annual play at the holidays, I’ve already spent far more time on them than I ever intended. Rather than go crazy on the details, I went with silver blades and dark brown handles for all the weapons.
The skin tones vary by tone and temperature. They could use more work, but the highlight mixes are improving. Somewhat. I wasn’t feeling the eyes, so I hit them with silver and then a black wash for that heroin chic dash of hollow-eyed cadaver. A little pink on the mouths and they could be used for vampires in a pinch.
I’m more concerned about trying the crackle again. Absence does tend to make the heart go delusional, but whatever. I prepped the bases with white and then hit them with a warm yellow high flow; with any luck there will be enough shrinkage on the crackle for it to show through on the edges. If not, it’ll work as a texture base for dirt or sand. Shall have to see once the crackle sets. If I recall correctly, could be two days.
EDIT: only took about 6 hours. Worked, but was far messier and subtler than intended. I doubt fluorescent ink would have been any better underneath, but I do need an option that’s easier to apply. Or to base first and mini after without breaking any legs.
Given that the cloaks are the focus, I decided to go back to the original plan-ish. I was going to airbrush them with the iridescent green-violet color shifting paint, but it would have been a serious pain in the ass to mask everywhere I didn’t want the effect. I brush tested the Space Dust on the mall food court squatter. It reminded me of a Strawberry Shortcake t-shirt I had circa 1983, so leaned into the disco of it all. Iridescent 80’s roller derby assassins it is. Pretty sure I had that lunch box.
The end of the line.
And now I want to watch Wynona Earp.
