I was going to skip the oil wash, but then I looked at the doorways next to the walls and changed my mind. There really is no substitute for oil paint, messy AF, though it may be. Seriously.

The oil wash is still drying, though I was able to start the dry-brushing in a few places, as I am ever the soul of patience. I hit the bottoms of things with flat black and based in slate gravel with a black sand float. I really should up my gravel game, but the 1/8″ slate reminds me of the Valley of Shale.

Replacing all the lava buds, not to mention the paint damage from removing them, sounds like very little return on investment. That top flower though…that I have just enough translucent polymer clay to try one more time. Smaller this time – more in keeping with columns – no crackle and a spent tea light instead of a wire armature.
