Fire in your heart and brimstone in your liver

Not a ton of progress on the guards, but some details. Bringing in more color feels like it would dilute the cohesiveness. I went with Grimm Black speed paint for the nails and eyes, and Reaper Dragon Red for the mouths. I tried black there too, but it looked all kinds of wrong. I’m thinking some yellow highlights should define teeth and tongues without taking too much time. I will probably go black on the weapons as well; obsidian feels more in keeping with the theme than steel or bronze.

I think the rest of the details will contrast the original color palette. Silverback-cyclops’ bracer will go yellow, to contrast with the red of his planted arm, while the bracelet will go deep red to contrast the yellow of the raised arm. Should probably wash and highlight the base and finger fires too… Much left to do.

I also tried the Army Painter brushes. Brand new, still in the plastic sleeve, the character brush started to split by the second dab of thinned paint. I dunno, maybe Minion is right and I’m too hard on my brushes, maybe I use too many different mediums, maybe I just don’t freaking care enough to obsess about what is ultimately a disposable tool. 10% Silver Brush/Utrecht and 90% Amazon generics, no toy company markups required.

I washed the Brimstone Horrors with Vallejo Game Wash in red – it feels more pigmented than the Army Painter it replaced. Now if Vallejo would just come out with a contrast paint, I could leave the speed paints to the airbrush.

Well shittles; ask and ye shall receive. I should probably catch up on YouTube.
