OK, I need to regroup after last night’s abruptness, but my brain appears to have gone AWOL.
The base of both canal lightboxes and the LEDs are in place. Short one connector to tie in the second canal, which should be here tomorrow to finish out testing.
Wrapped LEDs around the top of the central support at each level as well, to provide an under glow.
Stuck with XPS stone floors to use existing scraps. The Arcane pattern is quite potent, too much starts to look like high tea in Cornwall. I’d prefer my eyeballs not bleed. Probably best to catch the visible sections of the center support the same way.
The Arcane texture roller is highly effective on polymer clay, but I’d prefer to at least attempt air-dry first, so I can fix it in place while it’s still malleable enough to conform. And to smooth out the pattern where it isn’t needed.
I cut the taper into the top level but it needs an intermediary between the globe light and the stone. Something more organic and free-flowing, likely more clay – maybe a bud of sorts…
How to handle the guards… As much as I like the idea of using them as support pillars, it’s really not convenient for combat removal. It also adds a storage constraint, as they would have to be put back in the “right” places to fit correctly. That seems awfully silly. I could notch the corners at each level and then recess magnets into the floor blocks. If I want uniformity, perhaps an apse of some sort to act as a pillar.
I could carry on the organic theme, cut a partially unrolled leaf bud into each corner, recess the magnet into that, and the minis can go back wherever is convenient. It would provide a nice contrast to all the pattern and help balance all the stone and fire. |
So wtf does that leave me with for the foreseeable
- Air-dry Clay
- Test Arcane roller
- Polymer Clay
- Test run pillars
- Modified tentacle for globe base
- Repeat foam stone blocks on interior central support
- Canal lightboxes
- Finish wiring
- Roll out lava
- Airbrush lava and acrylic box tops
- Seal boxes with capstones
