So yesterday’s blue light test, wicked weird as it looked, did not thrill me. There was entirely too much blue light leakage. The original seal looked ok unlit, but I never checked the final coat in place on it’s own. Dumb. Very, very dumb.
In the interest of compounding my errors, I pulled out the airbrush again and started layering in yellow ink. I ran about 10 or 15 to 1, Amarillo ink to Dragon White acrylic for opacity. Unfortunately, the sun also went down on me, but so long as I’m painting blind, it may as well be in the dark. Why should reason decide to intervene now?
Eventually, after say three or four trips inside to test my progress on the light box, it occurred to me that I could remove the facing from said light box, bring it out to the airbrush booth, and plug it in with the compressor – actually spray with the box lit and see WTF I was doing. (Like I give two shits if the undercarriage is oversprayed.)
Of course, this revelation occurred, and succeeded, for about 30 seconds before I ran out of Amarillo ink. I have a cooler yellow scheduled for delivery, but 3 consecutive days in the respirator is not a trifecta I care to hit. I subbed in Army Painter Zealot Yellow speed paint, which was a little more orange than I would have chosen, but necessity is a mofo. I think the Phantom of the Balcony act has earned an intermission, at least through the Sunday matinee.
