I had to put the moratorium on new materials. I’m about out of space again. I reorg’d the closet for the trillionth time, and dumping the scrap foam helped, but no bueno. Until I decide how I’m going to resolve the space issues, I need to make due with what I have.
I’ve wanted to pour resin for a while, but I didn’t want to deal with open sides the first time out, so I tried to chop my thumb off instead. Once the base was chiseled out, I sealed it and painted the layout. I mixed joint compound and slate gravel for the river bank.
For the riverbed I mixed plaster, sand, paint, and water. I didn’t have smooth gravel. Or patience, so I used the leftover rocks that used to live in the turtle tank.
My original plan was to put a separate web to a tree on the shore and maybe throw some baby critters on it, but I wasn’t feeling more spiders. I made a wire tree armature and covered it with polymer clay. Since I planned on spraying webs over the tree, I used seafoam but no small scale flocking.
I sealed the water edges with UV resin, which worked out OK, I guess, but the whole setup isn’t something I plan on trying again. I wanted to limit how many new factors where in play at once, but I feel better about it now. Sadly, not before I over tinted the resin, but overall it wasn’t nearly as bad as made out to be. I should have added a surface layer of MP to the resin for texture, but deadlines.
