I seem to have hit a sticking point, having no clear plan forward. To that end, I’m going to do what I always do when all the YT voices become 50 shades of overwhelming; I’m going back to Duncan. Will it look anywhere near something that took 50 hours? Of course not, will I be on to the next model? Yes indeed. Done is better than perfect. I need to remember that I’m still making bibs. Short, sweet, simple, and ultimately inconsequential overall. No one cares if their tie on spit-up rag is seamed perfectly straight. CJ doesn’t care if the highlights are perfectly blended, he just wants monsters. And I still have a dragon…

OK, so… No more putzing trying to blend opaque colors. I need to rebase the crystals in the purple I chose, and then mix some with contract medium, maybe just a touch deeper. A few organic layers on the flat surfaces, deeper at the bottom, and leaving the edges exposed. A little Orchid Light edge highlighting along the top of the crystal, with a touch of bone white or sunlit flesh at the very tip. More contrast for the light affect on the basilisk. I should probably test that before I apply it. If it doesn’t work, I’ll have to redo large swathes basilisk to try and get the dry-brushing to match. More than likely it will look entirely piecemeal and I’ll have to redo the whole thing. Or not. The point was to try and see, not to try until perfect. Stop getting hung up on the minor crap and load a brush.

Much futzing with the crystal, but still no appreciable progress except that the paint is starting to layer and texture because there are 6 million coats on the crystals and the base. I did get my pirate based though, and I’m happy with the colors. Or I will be, once the wash tones them down a bit.
