I painted my basilisk based on the Melusai Blood Sisters tutorial at the Duncan Rhodes Painting Academy. Next up is to paint the crystals as OSL, based on the DRPA tutorial for green crystal bases. I’m going with a purple, and so far the crystals are based, but I am still working on the layering and transition from the black base to imperial purple, purple hex, and the lilac glow. There is a long way to go.
I spent most of today’s painting time on a the wizard, using the Vallejo imperial purple set. Its far from good but its a damn sight better than the last pass. I feel like I’m starting to understand a few things, but there is still a lot to consider at all times – brush size, paint viscosity, translucency. I was trying to use my butcher paper the way Vince uses his paper towels but it feel like it pulls too much moisture. That could have also been my mixes. I had a few paints dry up and it made it harder to tell what was fresh and how diluted things were.
The highlight and shadow colors are blended better, but I still ended up glazing over top to help marry them together. I think I’m going to roll with the robes the way they are and finish off the details. Another mini, another chance.
