The wash has done its bit and left a cloudy mess in its wake. Mostly its down to cloaks – I need to reestablish the midtones on the raised areas and increase shadows where appropriate. I’m thinking layers for the midtones and glazes to build the shadows gradually. After that I can reassess. I just need to be patient. If I get antsy or overwhelmed and rush things, I’m not likely to be pleased with the end result. Whether its work, the never ending list of things to review, or all the teeny-tiny highlights that need to be applied, the best way out is always through. And wine helps. Well, with paint, it’s not so great with databases.
OK, thinking about what Vince Venturella talked about regarding shadow to primary hue balance. I’ve never been a fan of basing with the darkest value and building the lighter over top. Its worth a shot to see if working out from the center is easier to visualize.
