I wasn’t feeling the paint this weekend, so I did some more research. Uncle Atom and Vince Venturella both had some very interesting things to say that made me feel better about my love of dry brushing. Vince also had some good advice to deal with the chalky aspects that bears testing out. I’m going to have to check out more of Vince’s painting videos, he seems to takes a much more utilitarian approach, which I dearly appreciate. Mr Rhodes also used an interesting technique on Belakor the Dark Master. He used the dry brushing as a guide for layering and edge highlighting, going over the dry brush with a clean layer to smooth and neaten things.
I was debating testing out the makeup brush as dry brush theory tonight, but I only own the one set, which I use, and have the travel case for – thinking I will hold onto those. I ordered a set on Amazon that will be here Weds; until then, I can work on my knights. 7 distinct figures is feeling like a lot at the moment, but there will always be something to work on while the previous pieces are drying.
Once I started painting, I lost about 4 hours in a blink. After this weekend, I was starting to wonder if I had lost focus, but I think I just needed some down time. And to not force shit; that never works out well. I pulled out the Dresden Files Accelerated core book; I’ve missed Harry.
