It’s been a while since I painted much of anything and I’m realizing that I’m a horrible paint pusher and my brushwork is atrocious. 🙈 Mini painting is definitely it’s own beast. Working on getting consistency under control, minding my brushes, and relearning the wet palette, which seems to turn Reaper paints into washes over night. I think its going to be a while before I’m willing to snip the sprues on my battalion. Fortunately, moving prep did uncover an old tube of craft store miniatures leftover from something or other. The quality is crap and my paint colors are limited, but dry-brushing is dry-brushing.
I also found a Pathfinder set that I thought would look cool kinda grungy, like a border bar that had seen better days. I’m happy with how the bottles turned out, but wish I had done a better job on the shelves themselves. It also would have been quite nice if the bottles had fit on all the shelves, but done is better than perfect. No point turning practice into a grind this early in. I didn’t want to overdo it on the wash, so I tried to build up slowly and probably layered on 20-ish weak passes but its not like they took long to dry. I’m happy with the overall result. I left the tops of the bar stools with a single pass for comparison and they definitely don’t radiate the same depth or warmth. I think the barrel is my favorite.
And finally, a trip to my local game shop turned up these adorable little dudes, which still need some kind of highlighting. I’m thinking about carrying the staff light reflection onto the wizard‘s hat and beard and fine lining his body. I’m thinking edge highlighting and fine lining for the red dude, but I’m having some challenges keeping control of the paint. I do like the way the sword turned out – silver dry brushed over black.
